Sheena

Sheena formed together around 2003 with Peter Wallner, Matt Wilson, and Joe Weed all having experience together in a creative musical environment. Matt McClaine, a drummer of the early band, parted ways in 2005. The remaining members decided to carry on with the "Sheena" moniker, and began writing material that represented their evolution towards electronica inspired dance rock.

In 2006 the band signed to Santa Cruz's Loves in Heat records and released their debut album, "Wah-Ha era" recorded at Santa Cruz's Indigital Studio. Later that fall, the band recruited two additional members: Nick Overhauser (member of Mountain Animal Hospital) on drums, percussion, synth and backup vocals and Charley Weston on sax, and backup synth.

In early 2007 Sheena performed shows with Of Montreal at The Avalon in Hollywood, The Attic in Santa Cruz, and the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. They have also shared the stage with great acts such as !!!, Ariel Pink, Subtitle, Books on Tape, Giraffes? Giraffes! and Death of a Party.

In '08 the band plans to release a 12" maxi-single entitled "Between the Planets: Log 1" featuring their new single, "Love Me at All".

Giraffes? Giraffes!

Ken and Joe grew up in Massachusetts.

Even though they had never met, they both enjoyed the same amusement park. They both liked a ride called the Rotor. You would stand inside the Rotor and it would spin and you would stick to the wall and the floor would drop.

Joe once saw someone puke on the Rotor and it stuck to their face until the ride slowed down. Other names for the Rotor are the Gravitron, the Twister, the Vortex, the Turkish Twist and the Starship 2000. Have you ever seen The 400 Blows (Les Quatre Cents Coups)?

Ken has never seen anyone puke on the Rotor.

Joe and Ken first met while going to college in New Hampshire. Ken studied music, while Joe studied literature.

They drank coffee and talked about the theory that whales were once sea creatures and they evolved into wolf-like creatures that ran on land, but they didn't like it so they evolved back into sea creatures and eventually became huge fucking whales.

They formed a band.

They can both play guitar and drums, but in GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! Joe taps and plucks while Ken taps and hits.

Ken and Joe and their very nice and very attractive girlfriends moved to Santa Cruz, California. They like it there. It's nice outside.

GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! released their debut album "SUPERBASS!!!! (black death greatest hits vol. 1)" in December 2005.

They've played some fun shows with HELLA, ERASE ERRATA, MAKE BELIEVE, THE ADVANTAGE, GROWING, SHOPLIFTING and a bunch of other really great bands.

GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! released their sophomore album, "More Skin With Milk-Mouth", on LOVES IN HEAT RECORDS in December 2007.

Depth Charge Revolt

depth charge revolt is an indie/post-punk band from Santa Cruz, California. Their influences include Fugazi, No Means No, Sonic Youth, and the Minutemen.

depth charge revolt consists of two drummers, guitarist, bassist and a vocalist. Todd Coleman and Kevin Northcutt create the simply complex rhythmic backbone, while Ryan Morgan lays down the frenetic bass lines. Craig Prentice wavers between melodic sing-song to full-out guitar frenzy blast, as Hector Lee Heaviside becomes distraught and asks you to be his friend.

depth charge revolt formed in the early part of the year 2000, and shortly thereafter began playing shows in the surrounding Santa Cruz area. They embarked on their first tour in the summer of 2001 and a second west coast tour in the summer of 2004. Both tours took depth charge revolt as far north (the second tour even further north) than Seattle, Washington and back.

They have performed in a variety of venues including the Catalyst, the Blue Lagoon, The Attic and The Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz; Lipo Lounge and El Rio in San Francisco; and The Aptos Club and the Mediterranean in Aptos, Ca.

depth charge revolt has shared the bill with acts such as Comets On Fire, Brian Kenny Fresno, Sheena, Kayo Dot, Giraffes? Giraffes! and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

In 2001 depth charge revolt released a self-titled e.p., followed by a second release in 2004, The Inaudible Growl e.p.; both produced and recorded by the band. A professionally recorded debut full length album is in the works with Dan Rathbun of Polymorph Recording and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum! This will be released on Hector Lee Heaviside's "Loves In Heat Records" in 2008.

Mountain Animal Hospital

Santa Cruz, CA based quartet Mountain Animal Hospital's founding members Chris Holcomb, Jeff Carroll and Nick Overhauser began playing music together in the summer of 2005. In the spring of 2007, Cameron Harskamp was recruited as lead singer; also lending his talents on synth, guitar and drums. Shortly after the addition of Harskamp, the band spent seven months piecing together a full-length record. The debut album entitled "Startled by Deer" was released on Santa Cruz's Loves In Heat Records on April 19th, 2008. Drawing from a wide range of influences, the band has formed a unique blend of progressive rock that finds a tasteful balance between the indie and psych movements. The band is currently working on new material for their next release.

Noise Clinic

Noise Clinic, based in Tokyo, Japan, is currently working on writing songs for the first Noise Clinic album. It will only be possible to play it at full volume, and will strip the paint from your house and car. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for it.

Taito Reed, guitarist/vocalist from the Santa Cruz/San Francisco based band Junk Sick Dawn moved to Tokyo, Japan in 2005 after 12 years of solid rock and rolling and touring the West Coast of the United States. In mid-2006, Taito teamed up with Ayato Kawakita of AKG (Ayato Kawakita Group) on drums, and started to jam on weekends. Soon, they decided to try to find a bass player and asked Taito's friend Tabata Mitsuru of Zeni Geva, Amazon Saliva and Acid Mother's Temple to join the group. Noise Clinic has been playing around Tokyo and will soon tour to Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe). Watch for a USA/Japan tour in 2008.

Noise Clinic's music reflects the fast-paced and multi-faceted life of modern Tokyo. A city on the edge of tomorrow; the future happening now. An idea of being crowded together in such a huge metropolis, the feeling of seperation, dislocation and confusion from the bombardment of sound and lights - a booming city with a true life of its own. Inner and outer space, going outward by looking inward. Noise Clinic combines many elements and influences, from rock to hardcore, from sheer noise, rhythm, prepared guitars to simple melodies and songs that both embrace traditional musical concepts and destroys them. Noise Clinic fits into you like a hook into an eye. A hook, an open eye. Noise Clinic deconstructs Western and Japanese musical ideas and rebuilds them with skewed punk and noise sensbilities. A true international band, Noise Clinic stakes its own claim on a musical No Man's Land and returns from the void with a truly original sound and energy.

Moon Cadillac

Moon Cadillac is a three piece band, formed in early 2007. The lineup started with Azor and Shahin. Both have been playing with on 'n' off local bands since 2002. Still pursuing sounds, they created electronic pop songs with the help of drum machines, computers, synths and all that shabang. The band still lacked that certain, "Something's missing". In the Summer of 2007, an ad was placed on Craigslist to scavage for a singer and Rick was found-Call it fate, the band is now complete. Days after Rick was acquired they began playing venues and house parties. This affected the band's sound and they've since drifted to more of a dance feel. Moon Cadillac's influences ranges from nature to street corners to the discotheque night life & partying atmosphere. Feeling "the ideas are up in the air, waiting to be plucked" blending everything together, would capture the whole club/dance ambience with a rock twist. The band also involve themselves with other genres such as trip-hop, ambient-pop, edgy electronica and martini lounge rhythms. Their music aims for one thing: inspiring civilians to dance as is there's no tomorrow. They are currently working on their first album to be released on Loves In Heat Records.
